Q&A with πΕͺπππππΕπ
Q: How did you first get into music production and/or DJing?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "Iβve always been drawn to music, even from a young age. I started playing piano at the age of 5 and attended an intensive music school where I also learned the trombone. In 2018, I attended my first rave with Slushii as the headliner, and that experience completely changed my perception of life and music. I first got into production in 2020, initially experimenting with different sounds on my computer just for fun. What began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion as I realized how much I loved creating something from scratch. Eventually, I started DJing at small local events, and it just snowballed from there. It felt like discovering a new language, and Iβve been hooked ever since."
Q: Who are your biggest musical influences?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "Thatβs a tough one because there are so many! My biggest influences come from a blend of different genres. Artists like SVDDEN DEATH, Space Laces, Excision, Marshmello, SLANDER, Apashe, ATLiens, and many more have really shaped my approach to electronic music. House and Techno artists like Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, and Calvin Harris have also inspired me, particularly in terms of intros and songwriting techniques. Additionally, I draw inspiration from classical music, with composers like Mozart, Handel, and Beethoven holding a special place in my heart. Growing up listening to classical music has had a lasting impact on me, and itβs all about finding the pieces that resonate with you and blending them to create something new."
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in electronic music?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "It was the freedom and creativity that really pulled me in. Electronic music allows you to break so many boundaries, there are no rules, just endless possibilities. Iβve always been fascinated by the way you can manipulate sound and create something from nothing, shaping a sound in countless ways. I love mixing orchestral elements with EDM to evoke emotion and make people want to dance. The first time I saw a crowd respond to a track Iβd produced, I knew this was what I wanted to do."
Q: How do you approach the creative process when producing new tracks?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "For me, itβs all about capturing a mood or feeling. I usually start with an idea or a sound thatβs been stuck in my head and build around that. Sometimes itβs a melody, other times itβs a rhythm or even just a sample that sparks something. I try to let the track evolve naturally and avoid forcing anything. Itβs important to stay open to where the music takes you, even if itβs in an unexpected direction. Just try, and you never know what could happen!"
Q: What software and equipment do you use in your setup?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "My setup is a mix of both software and hardware. I primarily use FL Studio for production because itβs super versatile and intuitive for my workflow. I also have a few synths that I love, like Serum, Phase Plant, Nexus, Sylenth1, and Vital, among others. For DJing, I use a DDJ-FLX6 with Rekordbox, which has been a solid choice for me. But honestly, itβs not the gear that defines an artist; itβs about how you use it."
Q: Do you have a favorite local venue where you enjoy performing?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "Thereβs something special about performing at Le Belmont in Montreal, it holds a special place in my heart. Itβs actually the first venue where I did my show, and my career really started there! The crowd is always amazing, and the vibe is unbeatable. Itβs one of those places where you can really connect with the audience, and that energy feeds into the performance. Every time I play there, it feels like a homecoming. While there are many cool venues in Montreal that Iβve had the chance to play at and love, Le Belmont will always be special to me."
Q: What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "Like anyone in this industry, Iβve faced my fair share of challenges. Whether itβs creative block, navigating the business side of things, dealing with imposter syndrome, or battling self-doubt, there have been moments when Iβve questioned if Iβm on the right path. What has helped me the most is staying grounded and remembering why I started in the first place. Itβs also important to surround yourself with people who support you and push you to keep going, even when things get tough. I have a team that helps me and a family that has believed in me since day one, so having that kind of mental support has been invaluable."
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers in your community?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "My biggest piece of advice is to stay true to yourself and your sound. Itβs easy to get caught up in trends or what you think others want to hear, but the most successful artists are the ones who are authentic. Donβt be afraid to experiment and make mistakes, thatβs how you grow. And remember, this is a journey, not a race. Be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. Try different things, be addicted to knowledge, always strive to surpass yourself, and most importantly: NEVER. FUCKING. STOP."
Q: Are there any upcoming projects or releases you can share with us?
"Iβm really excited about some new music Iβve been working on. Without giving too much away, I can say that Iβve been exploring some different sounds and ideas that I think people will be surprised by. Itβs something Iβve been pouring a lot of love into, and I canβt wait to share it with everyone soon! Also, keep an eye out for 2025 because my team and I have planned an upcoming EP, more music, and more shows in the USA!"
Q: How do you engage with your fans and build your community?
πΕͺπππππΕπ: "Engaging with fans is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. I try to stay active on social media, sharing not just my music but also the things that inspire me. I also love meeting people at shows and hearing their stories. Building a community is about creating a space where everyone feels connected, not just to the music but to each other. Iβm always looking for ways to give back to the people who support me, whether itβs through exclusive content, live streams, or just being open and accessible. Even though it can be stressful sometimes, having to work the extra miles or keeping up with social activities, remember that we are all human and we deserve respect, love, and happiness in the end! Love what you do, and people will love you back."
As πΕͺπππππΕπ gears up for his upcoming performance at Lost Lands this month, it's clear that his passion and dedication to his craft are driving him to new heights. With new projects on the horizon and a commitment to staying connected with his growing community, πΕͺπππππΕπ is an artist who is truly on the rise.
