Breaking Boundaries: Meet MRCY, the Dynamic Duo from Canada

Emerging from the vibrant music scene of Montreal, Canada, MRCY is a powerhouse female duo making waves in the world of bass music. Since starting their journey in 2019, they have captivated audiences with their raw energy and innovative sound. With a passion for creating music that moves people emotionally and physically, MRCY has quickly become a name to watch. In this exclusive interview, they share their inspirations, challenges, and creative process, offering a glimpse into their world as rising electronic music artists.

Q&A with MRCY

1. How did you first get into music production and/or DJing?
MRCY: We got into DJing around 2019. It was kind of a weird point in our lives; we really didn’t have much going on. We would go to a lot of shows and talk with artists until one day someone I was congratulating after their set told me, “Well, why don’t you do it?” I bought a DDJ-100 the next day.

2. Who are your biggest musical influences?
MRCY: Marauda, SVDDEN DEATH, and L.U.X are some of our biggest inspirations.

3. What inspired you to pursue a career in electronic music?
MRCY: We were really into going to events—we even had a list of shows on our notes app. Festivals were a regular part of our summers. Seeing how electronic music brings people together, whether at a massive festival or through headphones, was incredibly inspiring. We wanted to create something that moves people the same way, both emotionally and physically.

4. How do you approach the creative process when producing new tracks?
MRCY: The creative process can vary. Some days everything flows effortlessly, like the track writes itself. Other days, it’s tough to sit in front of a computer and be creative. When we hit a block, we sometimes go out to events to reignite that inspiration.

5. What software and equipment do you use in your setup?
MRCY: We run Ableton Live in our studio with Yamaha HS8 speakers and a Volt 276 interface. We also love using DT990 headphones for precision.

6. Do you have a favorite local venue where you enjoy performing?
MRCY: Le Belmont in Montreal is a favorite—it definitely holds up as a fantastic venue.

7. What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
MRCY: Staying motivated and disciplined is one of the hardest parts. We’ve learned not to take everything too seriously—after all, it’s music, and the art should come first. Recognition is great, but it should never overshadow the joy of creating. Standing out in a competitive industry was another big challenge. Ultimately, we embraced being ourselves, and everything began to flow naturally.

8. What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers in your community?
MRCY: Let the art speak for itself, and don’t give up. Many people quit too early because they’re looking for instant gratification. It’s a long journey filled with ups and downs. Master the basics first, and remember why you started. Don’t be afraid to take risks or fail—it’s all part of the process.

9. Are there any upcoming projects or releases you can share with us?
MRCY: We’re always working on music! Right now, we have some pretty exciting collaborations in the works.

10. How do you engage with your fans and build your community?
MRCY: We’re so lucky to live in a time where online communities can thrive. Social media has been instrumental in helping us connect with fans and others in the bass scene. Building our community isn’t just about promoting music; it’s about creating a family. The support from our fans fuels our creativity and pushes us to keep innovating.

MRCY’s journey from festival-goers to rising stars in the electronic music scene is a testament to their passion, resilience, and authenticity. With exciting collaborations on the horizon and a growing community of fans, this Canadian duo is poised for even greater success. Whether on stage at Le Belmont or through your headphones, MRCY’s music promises to inspire and energize. Keep an eye out for what’s next—this is just the beginning for MRCY.

Q&A with iGuess

Q: How did you first get into music production and/or DJing?
iGuess: When I was in middle and high school, I loved listening to a lot of house, hardstyle, and trap music. I would watch DJs play sets, and it inspired me to give it a try. By the end of it, I found myself gravitating toward creating riddim, even though I never expected to land there.

iGuess: My biggest influence would have to be Michael Jackson because he left such an incredible impact on the world through his performances and especially his music.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in electronic music?

Q: How do you approach the creative process when producing new tracks?
iGuess: I try not to take things too seriously at first; I like to play around and enjoy the process. Approaching a track with a playful mindset often helps me stay open-minded and leads me from creating something for fun to finishing a full track.

To make it work, I carry my laptop everywhere and create tracks during breaks and lunches. I’ll often transfer ideas to my PC at home to continue working on them.

iGuess: Don’t be shy to reach out for help. Everyone in this community has similar goals, and networking with other DJs and producers can lead to new opportunities and valuable learning experiences.

iGuess represents the essence of what it means to connect, create, and inspire within the music scene. From performing live sets to engaging with fellow artists and fans, his journey is far from over—and it’s one that we’ll all be watching. Artist of the Month: Louder Space

From Punk to Bass: Louder Space’s Journey Through Sound and Scene

Emerging from the heart of San Jose’s vibrant bass scene, Louder Space has made his mark on the dubstep world with a unique blend of punk rock roots and heavy electronic influences. From early days spent jamming in rock bands to stepping into the world of DJing and production, his journey is one of passion and exploration. With influences ranging from Blink-182 to Zeds Dead, Louder Space’s sound pays homage to his musical upbringing while carving a distinct path in today’s evolving bass music landscape. His dedication to perfecting his craft and connecting with fans has cemented him as one to watch in the EDM scene.

Q&A with Louder Space

Q: How did you first get into music production and/or DJing?
Louder Space: I was already completely in love with music before being introduced to the electronic scene. I had been in a few rock/punk bands in middle school & high school. By the time I got to my sophomore year in college, I remember seeing a couple of friends doing something with DJ decks in the corner of our house, and this was fresh and new to me and really piqued my curiosity. I asked them a couple questions, and before I knew it, I was buying my first set of decks and downloading Ableton that year. DJing and music production knowledge started around the same time for me.

Q: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Louder Space: I feel like I could write a whole novel answering this question accurately, but I’ll try to keep it concise. My musical influences stem primarily from pop/punk bands from the late 2000s/early 2010s. Off the top of my head, I can attribute a huge chunk of my passion for music to Blink-182 and Sum 41. Other influences include A Day to Remember, All Time Low, New Found Glory, Senses Fail, and Mayday Parade. That whole genre is kind of my comfort music, and I pop on my pop/punk playlist on Spotify almost weekly.

On the dance music side of things, my influences are constantly evolving and transforming. My roots are in the dubstep space. Zeds Dead, Skrillex, and Deadmau5 were some of the first electronic artists I started listening to around 2010/2011. Zomboy will always be a massive influence for me. More recently, I’ve been inspired by experimental bass artists like Sully, Noetika, Gallium, Evalution, Steller, and Twopercent. Their work has been a big influence on my own productions lately.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in electronic music?
Louder Space: My answer is going to sound a bit cliché, but it’s an honest answer! My very first show I attended was Doctor P at San Jose Civic in 2013, and I swear I remember being in the front right of the crowd thinking to myself, “I feel like I can do this.” That show was an unforgettable experience, and it honestly inspired me to start getting after it.

Q: How do you approach the creative process when producing new tracks?
Louder Space: Generally speaking, I usually start with a simple melody, pad, or arp for an intro. I’ve never been one to just start with making the drop; I always build my tracks out in a linear fashion. I try to keep drums and percussion relatively quiet and simple in the intro so that everything explodes with full volume for the drop. A TON of my creative process is just trial and error. I spend hours tinkering with sounds until I get something sounding good, and then I run with that. I personally mix as I go, throwing on EQ, compression, saturation, and reverb on the channels as I’m creating the track. Having an organized sample library helps immensely with workflow. Once the bulk of the track is done, I go back and mix it down in more detail.

Q: What software and equipment do you use in your setup?
Louder Space: I just upgraded to Ableton 12, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself recently. I use an M-Audio Keystation 49es MIDI keyboard, two JBL studio monitors, and Audiotechnica ATH-M50x headphones for production. For DJing, I use a Traktor S2MK3 mixer. I practice at home on this and perform on club or festival CDJs after loading everything into rekordbox.

Q: Do you have a favorite local venue where you enjoy performing?
Louder Space: DNA Lounge in San Francisco for sure. Loads of good memories inside that building. I also have to shout out Johnny V’s, even though it’s been closed for about 8 years now. It was a tiny bar in Downtown San Jose where my friends and I would blast 140 dubstep and wreak havoc. We had Mr. Svdden Death there around 2015, and I’ll never forget how humble he was before he blew up.

Q: What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Louder Space: I think every artist experiences periods of doubt, and I’m no different. The industry is oversaturated, and everyone’s a dubstep DJ. What I’ve learned is to focus on YOUR project and not compare yourself to others’ success. Boost up your peers who are doing well, and congratulate them in the comments or send a DM. Acknowledging self-doubt as part of the journey makes the wins even more rewarding because you chose to persevere.

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers?

Louder Space:

  1. Find local nightclubs that play the music you’re into and go as often as possible. Don’t just go to party—go to work. Start conversations with opening DJs and show promoters, and let your face become familiar.

  2. Watch free YouTube tutorials before paying for lessons. Some great channels are Ahee, BRAINWAVEZ, and XLNT Sound.

  3. Don’t expect perfection when you’re starting. Upload your tracks to SoundCloud, share them with friends, and take pride in putting yourself out there. The momentum will help push you forward.

Q: Are there any upcoming projects or releases you can share with us?
Louder Space: I recently signed with Unheard of Records out of San Diego, and I just put out a new track with them. I’ll be releasing more with them over the next year, and I’m wrapping up a 4-track EP that I’ll start rolling out soon. I’ve also enrolled in an online music program called Industry Set, which has been a huge help with production and marketing skills.

Q: How do you engage with your fans and build your community?
Louder Space: After my shows, I like to head into the crowd and meet people. These are the fans who spent their time and money to be there, and I want to connect with them. I think it’s important for fans to remember that artists—big and small—are just intense EDM fans too.

Louder Space’s journey from rock bands to the dubstep stage is a testament to his passion and relentless drive. As he continues to evolve his sound and expand his community, there’s no doubt we’ll be hearing much more from this rising bass artist. Be sure to keep an eye out for his upcoming releases, and catch him at a local venue to experience the energy firsthand!

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: The Sound Alchemist Ready to Take Lost Lands by Storm

This month, we’re excited to feature 𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍, a rising star in the electronic music scene who’s been making waves with his unique blend of orchestral elements and EDM. From his early days learning piano and trombone to his first rave in 2018, 𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍’s journey has been nothing short of transformative. His passion for music led him to start producing in 2020, and he quickly found himself immersed in DJing. As he prepares to play at Lost Lands this month, 𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍 is poised to captivate even more fans with his emotionally charged sound.

Q&A with 𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍

Q: How did you first get into music production and/or DJing?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "I’ve always been drawn to music, even from a young age. I started playing piano at the age of 5 and attended an intensive music school where I also learned the trombone. In 2018, I attended my first rave with Slushii as the headliner, and that experience completely changed my perception of life and music. I first got into production in 2020, initially experimenting with different sounds on my computer just for fun. What began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion as I realized how much I loved creating something from scratch. Eventually, I started DJing at small local events, and it just snowballed from there. It felt like discovering a new language, and I’ve been hooked ever since."

Q: Who are your biggest musical influences?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "That’s a tough one because there are so many! My biggest influences come from a blend of different genres. Artists like SVDDEN DEATH, Space Laces, Excision, Marshmello, SLANDER, Apashe, ATLiens, and many more have really shaped my approach to electronic music. House and Techno artists like Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, and Calvin Harris have also inspired me, particularly in terms of intros and songwriting techniques. Additionally, I draw inspiration from classical music, with composers like Mozart, Handel, and Beethoven holding a special place in my heart. Growing up listening to classical music has had a lasting impact on me, and it’s all about finding the pieces that resonate with you and blending them to create something new."

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in electronic music?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "It was the freedom and creativity that really pulled me in. Electronic music allows you to break so many boundaries, there are no rules, just endless possibilities. I’ve always been fascinated by the way you can manipulate sound and create something from nothing, shaping a sound in countless ways. I love mixing orchestral elements with EDM to evoke emotion and make people want to dance. The first time I saw a crowd respond to a track I’d produced, I knew this was what I wanted to do."

Q: How do you approach the creative process when producing new tracks?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "For me, it’s all about capturing a mood or feeling. I usually start with an idea or a sound that’s been stuck in my head and build around that. Sometimes it’s a melody, other times it’s a rhythm or even just a sample that sparks something. I try to let the track evolve naturally and avoid forcing anything. It’s important to stay open to where the music takes you, even if it’s in an unexpected direction. Just try, and you never know what could happen!"

Q: What software and equipment do you use in your setup?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "My setup is a mix of both software and hardware. I primarily use FL Studio for production because it’s super versatile and intuitive for my workflow. I also have a few synths that I love, like Serum, Phase Plant, Nexus, Sylenth1, and Vital, among others. For DJing, I use a DDJ-FLX6 with Rekordbox, which has been a solid choice for me. But honestly, it’s not the gear that defines an artist; it’s about how you use it."

Q: Do you have a favorite local venue where you enjoy performing?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "There’s something special about performing at Le Belmont in Montreal, it holds a special place in my heart. It’s actually the first venue where I did my show, and my career really started there! The crowd is always amazing, and the vibe is unbeatable. It’s one of those places where you can really connect with the audience, and that energy feeds into the performance. Every time I play there, it feels like a homecoming. While there are many cool venues in Montreal that I’ve had the chance to play at and love, Le Belmont will always be special to me."

Q: What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "Like anyone in this industry, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges. Whether it’s creative block, navigating the business side of things, dealing with imposter syndrome, or battling self-doubt, there have been moments when I’ve questioned if I’m on the right path. What has helped me the most is staying grounded and remembering why I started in the first place. It’s also important to surround yourself with people who support you and push you to keep going, even when things get tough. I have a team that helps me and a family that has believed in me since day one, so having that kind of mental support has been invaluable."

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers in your community?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "My biggest piece of advice is to stay true to yourself and your sound. It’s easy to get caught up in trends or what you think others want to hear, but the most successful artists are the ones who are authentic. Don’t be afraid to experiment and make mistakes, that’s how you grow. And remember, this is a journey, not a race. Be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. Try different things, be addicted to knowledge, always strive to surpass yourself, and most importantly: NEVER. FUCKING. STOP."

Q: Are there any upcoming projects or releases you can share with us?

"I’m really excited about some new music I’ve been working on. Without giving too much away, I can say that I’ve been exploring some different sounds and ideas that I think people will be surprised by. It’s something I’ve been pouring a lot of love into, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone soon! Also, keep an eye out for 2025 because my team and I have planned an upcoming EP, more music, and more shows in the USA!"

Q: How do you engage with your fans and build your community?

𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍: "Engaging with fans is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. I try to stay active on social media, sharing not just my music but also the things that inspire me. I also love meeting people at shows and hearing their stories. Building a community is about creating a space where everyone feels connected, not just to the music but to each other. I’m always looking for ways to give back to the people who support me, whether it’s through exclusive content, live streams, or just being open and accessible. Even though it can be stressful sometimes, having to work the extra miles or keeping up with social activities, remember that we are all human and we deserve respect, love, and happiness in the end! Love what you do, and people will love you back."

As 𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍 gears up for his upcoming performance at Lost Lands this month, it's clear that his passion and dedication to his craft are driving him to new heights. With new projects on the horizon and a commitment to staying connected with his growing community, 𝐇Ū𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈Ō𝐍 is an artist who is truly on the rise. Be sure to keep an eye on his journey, as he continues to captivate audiences with his powerful and emotionally resonant music.

Artist of the Month: CLOUDII

For the month of July, the XILE Collective is excited to feature Cloudii, an up-and-coming EDM artist from the San Francisco Bay Area, as our Artist of the Month. With a unique blend of influences and a compelling backstory, Cloudii is quickly making a name for himself in the electronic music scene.

Cloudii’s journey into music production began serendipitously.

“I made a friend at a rave, and after seeing him DJ on Snapchat the next day, I was intrigued. I had no idea what DJing was but wanted to learn, so I hit him up and went to his house that day. The rest is history,”

This spontaneous decision set Cloudii on a path that has since become his passion. His sound is a unique amalgamation of various genres. "Dubstep-wise, my biggest influences are Virtual Riot, Syzy, and Infekt. Outside of dubstep, I'd say Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and J. Cole," he shares. This diverse range of inspirations is evident in his music, which seamlessly blends heavy bass with melodic elements.

Initially drawn to guitar and singing, Cloudii’s direction shifted after experiencing dubstep shows. "It just clicked for me that this is what I really vibed with," he explains. This realization propelled him into the electronic music scene, where he has since thrived.

When it comes to producing new tracks, Cloudii follows a distinct process.

"I usually start with sound design, then create a flow. I make the intro after and add a pre-drop sample that matches the vibe of the tune,"

His meticulous approach ensures each track is a well-crafted auditory experience. Cloudii began producing with FL Studio but has since transitioned to Ableton. He frequently uses Reason Rack VST and Kilohearts plugins, producing on his PC with Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones. This setup allows him to create his signature sound with precision.

Locally, the DNA Lounge holds a special place in Cloudii's heart as his favorite local venue. "It's my second home," he says, highlighting the importance of the local music scene in his journey.

Staying motivated has been a significant challenge for Cloudii.

"Staying disciplined and working hard through tough times always pays off eventually"

His perseverance is a testament to his dedication to his craft. For those just starting, Cloudii emphasizes the importance of persistence. "Don't be afraid of being bad at it! As Jake from Adventure Time once said, 'Sucking at something is the first step to being sorta good at something!' Keep your expectations low and enjoy the process," he encourages.

Cloudii has exciting plans for the future. "I will be posting my next single in July, followed by a few more singles throughout the rest of the year. I have some collabs coming with other local heroes too!" he reveals, hinting at what fans can look forward to. Engagement with fans is crucial for Cloudii. He uses platforms like SoundCloud, Spotify, and Instagram to share his music and interact with his audience. "I like posting polls on my stories to get my supporters' opinions, whether it's about a track I'm working on or their favorite soup," he shares, emphasizing the importance of community in his career.

Cloudii’s passion, dedication, and innovative approach to music make him a standout artist in the EDM scene. Be sure to follow him and stay tuned for his upcoming releases.

Artist of the Month: DRIPIT

Welcome to the 5th installment of artist of the month! For the month of June, we have Bay Area local DJ DRIPIT who has been tearing it up in the scene. Fresh out of playing the 360 CRANKDAT show in San Francisco, CA at DNA Lounge, DRIPIT has been making moves that will solidify his name in the riddim/dubstep scene as a force to be reckoned.

Native to the East Bay out of Walnut Creek, CA, DRIPIT moved to Brentwood, CA at a young age and lost connection with many of his friends. For this reason, music has served to be important in his life as it helped keep his mind off the struggles of moving. We asked DRIPIT what got him into EDM, and he stated that:

“I was always drawn to the unique sounds of EDM, but the biggest influence was my older sister Kailani. At the time she introduced me to artists like Skrillex, Deadmau5, Bassnectar, and many more! After discovering dubstep, I was hooked to the sound and the flow – it made me feel incredible! From that point on, I was going deeper into the culture and knowledge of dubstep.”

Among some of his many core memories going to EDM events, DRIPIT mentioned that his first rave was something he would never forget – that kind of bass hitting your body for the first time is something that will stay with you forever. DRIPIT also mentioned meeting DirtySnatcha – that he was a humble and successful artist that he looked up to and was shocked when he bought some of his (DRIPITs) merch - “In that moment he felt like a big brother.” Among one of the last core memory experiences that DRIPIT talked about was his first time playing a show with an audience in Richmond, CA – and for all of us DJ’s, this is a memory that stays with all of us, that kind of pressure cannot be replicated too many times.

In 2015, DRIPIT started producing on Logic Pro X. Today, he is consistently striving to perfect his sound and style with every track that he releases – I'm sure many of us can relate to attempting to achieve this as well. Moving toward the future, DRIPIT continues his mission of releasing music and playing insane events. If you didn’t catch him at CRANKDAT, you can catch him again sometime soon. Be on the lookout for this up-and-coming legend.

Artist of the Month: QUINLO

Welcome to the 4th installment of artist of the month! For the month of May, we have local Bay Area EDM artist Quinlo (aka Diego)! We asked Quinlo a few questions digging into his background to find out more about what drove his interests to become a producer. As an up-and-coming artist, Quinlo has an inspirational story to share that shows great things can happen when dedicating yourself to your passion.

Originally from Guatemala, Quinlo is known for his heavy sounds that are “full of intensity and energy” with an emphasis on the tearout and riddim genres. When we asked about Quinlo’s background in music, he stated that:

“I started playing music when I was a kid. Playing drums and piano with the church instruments my dad had. Little by little, I started to get more interested in music.”

Eventually on his first computer, Quinlo would discover the David Guetta Ultra performance in 2014 and it changed his life forever.

After David Guetta opened the doors into the wide spectrum of EDM for Quinlo, he discovered artists like Skrillex, Boombox Cartel, and Zomboy. Notably, in 2016 he went to his first rave – Barely Alive in Guatemala. Quinlo mentioned that “it blew my mind so much that all I wanted to do was do what those big artists were doing. This is when I decided to start the Quinlo project in 2018.”

Quino ended up moving to the United States the very same year that he started his music project. To get himself going he did livestreams on Instagram and Facebook playing out his dubstep sets as well as uploading them to SoundCloud. Going to local shows also proved to be extremely beneficial as he found success in his local music scene – now playing many within the San Francisco Bay Area. Quinlo also mentioned that the XILE Collective booked him for one of his first shows here in the United States!

Moving forward, Quinlo has rebranded his project to showcase a new concept which is portrayed through his debut EP “CLAMORIBUS” that was released on May 3rd on all streaming platforms. Quinlo mentions that “More music and more shows are on the way. I hope everyone likes this project and all the ideas I have in mind. Shoutout to the XILE Collective for having me as the artist of the month and thank you to everyone who supports this project, much love!”

Be sure to check out music from Quinlo and stay tuned for next month's artist of the month!

Artist of the Month: Joogornot

For this month's AotM we have dubstep artist Joogornot. Being a long time member of our team, Joogornot has been on the grind showing promise in his rise to stardom. Recently, Joog announced that he will be performing at this year's Toxic Summer festival hosted by Vital Events in San Francisco at the Midway. Going B2B with XILE artist WY-FY, this will be a great set to catch to gauge the aggressive sound that XILE has to offer.

Joogornot’s goal as an artist is to create the heaviest tracks possible. When speaking to him about this, he mentioned that he “likes to bring emotion to people and move people the way that (he) had been moved/changed by the genre itself.” Dubstep being a centerpiece of his life, Joogs passion for heavy music is unmatched. Back in 2016, Joog attended his first festival - Insomniac’s Bay Area edition of Beyond Wonderland. According to Joog, “After that weekend (his) life and taste in music had been changed forever.”

It is no question that music drives ambition and helps connect groups of people in ways that other arts in the media can not. Joog was able to connect with countless people through his interest in music and strives to continue doing so. Having 8 years of experience in the DAW (digital audio workstation) Ableton, Joog takes extreme pride in his sound design stating that “all Joogornot drops are made from scratch.” To add to this, Joog also offers 1 on 1 production lessons and has a handful of students that he works with and has watched grow as producers over the last year or so.

Joog has traveled for his music as well, playing in states as far as Minneapolis, all the way from California. Coming up, he is playing direct support for Perry Wayne and Blvnkspvce at the Public Works in San Francisco on 4/19. Later in the year, he is playing at Toxic Summer. Moving toward the future, Joog plans on creating as much music as possible and is seeking to branch out to play more shows in new cities. If you want to book Joogornot, please head to his IG linked below. We look forward to seeing Joogornot grow even more as an artist.

Joogornot would like to shout out his boy Aaron for buying him Ableton, Serum, and a laptop back in the day when he was coming up! Joog mentions that “If it wasn’t for him, I would not be Joogornot and would have never created any of the music I have.”

Artist of the Month: DAZZLE$

Welcome to the 2nd installment of AotM. For the month of March, we have local Bay Area EDM artist DAZZLE$! After sitting down with DAZZLE$ to learn more about her history, future goals, and ambitions within the EDM scene it became clear that she shows a lot of promise as an artist and event coordinator. DAZZLE$ moved to San Francisco, CA in 2016 from her home in Taiwan after becoming infatuated with Western culture.

Music being one of the most important parts of her life, DAZZLE$ reflects on her early interest in EDM dating back to high school mentioning that “One day I happened to pass a store with some interesting music that I had never heard before and I was fascinated by everything in the store which sold a bunch of DJ stuff that I didn’t recognize. The store also sold some CDs recorded by DJs, so I bought a few CDs from it and it became my favorite CD at the time. The CDs had playlists on the back, and I remember there were some songs from Avicii and David Guetta, so I googled them and tried searching for more EDM songs online. Later on, I found some songs from Skrillex and that was probably the first time I listened to dubstep, and I’ve been madly in love with it ever since.”

Among these early influences, another artist that influenced DAZZLE$ early on was NGHTMRE. Discovering NGHTMRE through his song “Street” that Skrillex played at Ultra in 2015, his music paved the way for DAZZLE$ growing interest in trap & future bass. DAZZLE$ stated that NGHTMRE is “one of the reasons (she) became a DJ” and what fueled her interest in enrolling as a student at the ICON Collective in Los Angeles, CA where her first mentor was Protohype.

Moving toward the future, DAZZLE$ is looking forward to playing more shows and spending more time on audio production. Last year she started her own event company called “REUNiON” and booked Codd Dubz in China as a part of his debut in Asia. The next event they are throwing will be on March 23rd with Usaybflow + special guest Bonker. DAZZLE$ anticipates on bringing more dubstep artist to China and is showing to be a prominent force in music both locally and internationally.

DAZZLE$ had a few words to say for her feature in this month’s AotM! She said:

“During the pandemic, I finally had the time to learn and become a DJ, as I was so busy with my double master’s degrees before that. I want to shout out the XILE team, because my U.S. debut was with them on April 16th, 2022 playing support for Autokorekt and Crowell. This show means a lot to me and helped me to play more shows in the Bay Area afterwards. Also, this helped me to gain more confidence and motivate me to continue to pursue my dreams.”

Artist of the Month: Dastro

Artist of the Month: Dastro

Welcome to the first installment of artist of the month. This month we have Duan Truong who goes by the artist name Dastro. Coming to the United States from Vietnam in 2014 to pursue an education and learn about American culture, Dastro became enamored with the EDM culture and the PLUR movement. Dastro attended his first EDM show in 2017 (Yellow Claw at the Bill Graham in San Francisco, CA) and this changed his life forever. We sat down and spoke with Dastro to gauge his place in the EDM scene and how he got to where he is now and what he plans on for the future. This is his story so far (and moving forward we hope to share even more stories from our local Bay Area scene – and eventually, the greater United States).

Dastro started his project in 2019 as DT and pursued some local gigs in the San Jose, CA area. With an emphasis on hybrid trap and bass house, DT crafted a unique sound for himself that continues to shock his friends and fans alike that keeps venues wanting more. The global pandemic in 2020 proved to be a pinnacle moment for DTs music as he began to venture further down the audio production route and began defining himself as a producer. Shortly thereafter he released a few tracks on SoundCloud ranging from his tune “Back At It” to a bass house remix of Riot Ten’s “Mawlee.”

In 2023, DT started his Dastro project. Dastro stated that at around this time he “decided to take a step further and join the Cosmic Academy to learn about the music industry and production”.

Continuing this pursuit in musical expression and education in the arts, Dastro mentions that:

“My journey in music taught me how to be self-taught, be myself, and trust in myself. I know a lot of good friends in the scene that support and show each other unconditional love and make the EDM community one of the best communities – you can’t find it anywhere else.”

According to Dastro, one of his defining moments as an artist so far was being selected as a winner for the DJ contest we hosted years ago closing for the Tisoki show in San Francisco, CA. This helped motivate him to play on a more professional setup and brought him right back into the studio in the following weeks to continue his dream of being an audio engineer.

Moving into 2024 Dastro has tons of new music prepped and ready to go for release. His new EP “Bad Habits” just dropped on February 2nd and is available now on all streaming platforms. Go check it out if you haven’t yet!

Dastro would like to shout out his friends John Gang and Twstd Zoo and is excited to move forward into the new year.

Bad Habits EP available now!
