Artist of the Month: QUINLO
Welcome to the 4th installment of artist of the month! For the month of May, we have local Bay Area EDM artist Quinlo (aka Diego)! We asked Quinlo a few questions digging into his background to find out more about what drove his interests to become a producer. As an up-and-coming artist, Quinlo has an inspirational story to share that shows great things can happen when dedicating yourself to your passion.
Originally from Guatemala, Quinlo is known for his heavy sounds that are “full of intensity and energy” with an emphasis on the tearout and riddim genres. When we asked about Quinlo’s background in music, he stated that:
“I started playing music when I was a kid. Playing drums and piano with the church instruments my dad had. Little by little, I started to get more interested in music.”
Eventually on his first computer, Quinlo would discover the David Guetta Ultra performance in 2014 and it changed his life forever.
After David Guetta opened the doors into the wide spectrum of EDM for Quinlo, he discovered artists like Skrillex, Boombox Cartel, and Zomboy. Notably, in 2016 he went to his first rave – Barely Alive in Guatemala. Quinlo mentioned that “it blew my mind so much that all I wanted to do was do what those big artists were doing. This is when I decided to start the Quinlo project in 2018.”
Quino ended up moving to the United States the very same year that he started his music project. To get himself going he did livestreams on Instagram and Facebook playing out his dubstep sets as well as uploading them to SoundCloud. Going to local shows also proved to be extremely beneficial as he found success in his local music scene – now playing many within the San Francisco Bay Area. Quinlo also mentioned that the XILE Collective booked him for one of his first shows here in the United States!
Moving forward, Quinlo has rebranded his project to showcase a new concept which is portrayed through his debut EP “CLAMORIBUS” that was released on May 3rd on all streaming platforms. Quinlo mentions that “More music and more shows are on the way. I hope everyone likes this project and all the ideas I have in mind. Shoutout to the XILE Collective for having me as the artist of the month and thank you to everyone who supports this project, much love!”
Be sure to check out music from Quinlo and stay tuned for next month's artist of the month!
